Babies
If you’re buying a gift for a baby, here’s what they really need that mom and dad might not be saying, diapers, wipes, and formula. Ask mom first what brands they use because moms know what works best for their baby.
That said, as the gift giver, I like seeing a baby wear the outfit or use the toy I gave them. So in addition to practical, I also want to give fun. I try to split my budget 8/20 practical to fun. I have a few ideas for that below.
Toddlers & Preschoolers
There are so many new toys on the market since my kids were toddlers. I don’t want to share a bunch of toys without knowing if they are quality or not, so I am going to just share a few items that my kids LOVED and we kept for years.
Pro Tip for grandparents – ask what the kids are loving and ADD on to their sets vs buying something different. Or better yet buy one fun thing to open and put the rest in a savings account for when they are 18 and be their HERO as an adult.

Toy Train or Hot Wheels
We had a train table and premade hot wheels tracks. They were never played with. But tracks you build on the floor on your own, those were played with for HOURS! And cars that fit in the palm of your hand were played with 10x more than big ones.
Figurines
Dolls and Doll Houses
In the toddler and preschool age, babies and doll houses got a lot of play time in our house.
