When Harry Met Sally Movie Night: At-Home Movie Date Series

Eric and I decided to do a series where we turn a simple movie night into an at-home date by watching iconic 90s movies we’ve somehow never seen! This week we are watching When Harry Met Sally.

Instead of just lounging on the couch, we made it special by dimming the lights, grabbing cozy blankets, and pairing each movie with dessert and drinks that go with the movie. It’s the perfect way to stay connected with each other and make elevate movie night to date night. If you’re looking for an easy but fun date night idea, this one’s a must!

Food

Dinner – Pastrami and turkey sandwiches or Cobb salad

Dessert – Apple Pie A La Mode

We don’t do dinner with our movie because we do date after we put the kids to sleep and we have already eaten.

The iconic scene, “I’ll have what she is having” is at Katz deli and they are famous for their pastrami sandwich. Harry is eating the classic pastrami on club bread and Sally is eating a turkey sandwich on club bread. Both sandwiches are served with pickles, a side of coleslaw and a Dr. Browns soda (a Jewish deli staple!)

Or you can make a cobb salad because Sally also eats that in another scene.

For dessert, Meg Ryan’s character orders apple pie al a mode with strawberry ice cream. So I made my homemade apple pie and caramel sauce. I knew Eric would want the pie without ice cream so I served him that. But I had apple pie ice cream. I bought vanilla ice cream, cut up 2 slices of pie, and mixed them together. Drizzle with a little caramel and goodness!

I knew apple pie a la mode was part of the movie but I didn’t know it was strawberry ice cream until we were watching so vanilla it is.

Set The Mood

You’re going to be watching a movie so no need to set the mood with sounds but we need to make the room cozy.

Then you want to dim the lights and light a candle or two.

Grab a blanket to share, and get cozy together.
